Commercial Site Clearance for Shell Forecourt Refurbishment

  • Date: May 2026
  • Location: Medway, Kent
  • Project Type: Commercial Waste Clearance

About this Project

Before refurbishment work could begin at a Shell forecourt on the Medway City Estate, the site required a comprehensive environmental clean-up.

Cage Waste Removal Limited was instructed by one of Shell UK’s contractors to carry out the commercial clearance, ensuring the forecourt and surrounding areas were left clean, safe and ready for the refurbishment programme to commence.

The project involved removing fly-tipped waste, general litter and accumulated debris from across the forecourt, perimeter, landscaped areas and hedgerows.

Assessing the Site

Over time, the site had become affected by fly-tipping and general litter accumulation.

The waste included:

  • Fly-tipped tyres
  • Bags of hardcore and construction materials
  • General mixed waste
  • Plastic bottles and drinks cans
  • Food packaging
  • Wind-blown litter caught in hedgerows and landscaped areas

While the larger items were immediately visible, a significant amount of litter had also built up around the perimeter of the site. This required careful hand-picking to ensure the area was thoroughly cleared rather than simply removing the most obvious waste.

Our initial assessment allowed us to understand the extent of the work and plan an efficient approach around the busy commercial forecourt.

Planning the Clearance

The entire project was planned to be completed within a single day.

Rather than repeatedly moving our vehicles around the busy forecourt, we used our branded wheelie bins as mobile collection points. This allowed our operatives to move efficiently around the site, collecting waste into the bins before transporting it back to the vehicle for loading.

This approach reduced unnecessary vehicle movements, improved safety on site and allowed the team to work efficiently across the entire forecourt and surrounding areas.

Using the right equipment and working method was particularly important on a busy commercial site where keeping disruption to a minimum was a key consideration.

Clearing the Forecourt

Our team worked across the forecourt, removing fly-tipped waste, general rubbish and accumulated litter.

Once the larger items had been removed, the team continued by clearing litter from landscaped areas, fencing lines and the site perimeter. Particular attention was given to areas where wind-blown waste had become trapped within hedgerows and landscaping.

The objective wasn’t simply to remove the obvious waste. We wanted to leave the entire site in a clean and presentable condition, ready for the refurbishment works to begin.

Waste Management

Following completion of the clearance, all waste was transported back to our fully licensed waste transfer facility in Ashford.

There, each load was inspected, segregated and separated into individual waste streams wherever possible. Materials suitable for recycling and resource recovery were separated before any residual waste was sent for final disposal.

This process forms an important part of our commercial waste clearance service. Removing waste from a site is only one part of the job; responsible handling, sorting and disposal are equally important.

The Finished Site

The Shell forecourt was successfully cleared in a single day, providing Shell UK’s contractor with a clean and tidy site ready for the planned refurbishment programme.

Projects like this demonstrate the importance of combining efficient working methods with responsible waste management. By planning the job correctly, using the right equipment and managing waste through a licensed waste transfer facility, Cage Waste Removal Limited was able to deliver a safe, efficient and environmentally responsible commercial clearance.

Why Do We Use Branded Wheelie Bins on Large Sites?

Our branded wheelie bins act as mobile collection points, allowing our operatives to gather waste from across a site without constantly moving vehicles.

This helps to improve efficiency, reduce unnecessary manual handling, minimise vehicle movements and keep the work area organised throughout the project.

For larger commercial clearances, using this approach can make a significant difference to how efficiently our team can work, particularly where access, safety and minimising disruption are important considerations.
